USA 4th of July Layout

Today's layout was inspired by an Alison Davis one page sketch.  I love using her sketches to provide a starting point to my layouts.  This paper set from Pebbles has some bold patterns so initially I struggled with how to use them.  Stripes allowed those patterns to be shown, without being overwhelming.  And the rosettes also emphasized their funky patterns.

The background paper is from the Bo Bunny Double Dot collection, which you've probably seen on this blog before if you are a frequent reader. It's a perfect neutral paper in that it gives some dimension without being intrusive.  Stampin Up! also makes some similar papers.

I used the Cuttlebug and two fabulous dies from Provo Craft to create these rosettes (see below for product details and links).  What I love about the Provo Craft brand of these rosette dies, unlike the Sizzix ones, is that they score the paper perfectly for the folds, without weakening it so much that then the folds tear.  I have had that problem with the Sizzix brand before.

A key to making good rosettes is to use the hot glue gun - they just don't stay together without it.  I tried on these to use a glue dot instead since I was out of hot glue sticks and they all bounced back up.  So I was forced to make a trip to Michaels (you know how hard that was for me...LOL!).

The metal center to the striped rosette is from Stampin Up!
I used the two sets below to make these rosettes as they vary in size tremendously and I wanted variety.
This "USA" comes from the Cricut Cartridge Stand and Salute, which is a patriotic must have, especially if you have members in the armed forces in your family.  It's fantastic!

Don't forget we are giving away a Bridal Shower Cartridge this week!

How can you win?

1) Leave a comment below letting me know your favorite thing about summer.  Mine is no carpool lines or homework!  And vacation!  And yummy vegetables!  And good movies!  OK, so you can list a bunch of stuff....LOL!
2) Subscribe or follow the blog!

That's it!

Winner will be announced Monday, July 9, 2012 and has two weeks to claim prize.  Allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

Be sure and check out Joy's and Melanie's personal blogs for more creative goodness at Obsessed with Scrapbooking and Courtney Lane Designs!

Fabulous layout. I'm so grateful you shared the tip about the glue gun for the rosettes. I'd given up making them because they never stay together. I've used every kind of adhesive in my arsenal, but I don't have a glue gun. Looks like I'll have to add it to the least of needs! My favorite thing about summer is the 4th of July holiday. I love the parade, the barbecue and the fireworks. And of course, I love the blessing of being able to spend my summers on the shore.
