Adorable Acrylic Cup!

Hi, Kendra here and I just wanted to say how much fun I have had guest blogging this week!  You all have been so kind.  I have one more project for you this week.  It it a really fun and quick idea for a gift or for yourself.  It is an Adorable Acrylic Cup with Vinyl Decals.  It would be perfect to take wherever you go this summer.  Just be sure to hand wash it so the decals stay brightly colored!  :-)

The Cute Girly Cricut on one side...

I <3 My Cricut on the other side!

It was beyond simple to make and only took about 15 minutes from start to finish.  You will need the Cricut of you choice, the Car Decals Cricut Cartridge, Hot Pink and Lime Green Vinyl and Transfer tape.

Select the image you want for your cup and cut it at 3.25 inches. You will want to cut the shadow out of the green and the top layer out of pink.  Next, select the phrase you want and cut it out of Green and Pink.  If you are using a Gypsy like I did you can hide the unwanted contours to only cut what you want in the correct color.

You are now going to weed out your vinyl.  This means that the outside part you don't use is removed.  Notice I am using tweezers to get rid of the unwanted part.

Here is the Vinyl after weeding.  You will notice that only the heart is cut out pink.  I hid the other contours so I did not waste vinyl.

The next step in creating your adorble cup is to us the transfer tape to transfer your image to your cup.

Step 1 Apply transfer tape to your image and rub will with the side of a scoring tool.

Step 2 Gently peel your transfer tape back making sure your image picks up cleanly.  If part of it is not coming up easily, re-rub that area.

Step 3 Lay part of the smooth paper backing over your shadow and match up one area.  This is much easier that trying to match it up.  Once you are sure you have it right, remove the smooth paper baking and smooth your image once again with the side of a scoring tool.

Step 4 This is what your image will look like.  Gently lift the transfer tape and image off of the backing.

Step 5 Place carefully Vinyl image on your cup and rub well.

Step 6 Slowly peel the transfer tape off.

Here is what it looks like after the transfer tape has been removed.

Apply the pink heart in place of the green on and pick up the entire image with transfer tape.
Repeat steps 1-6 for transferring your phrase.

I have found out of experience, that it is easier and more pleasing to the eye to place the phrase at an angle.  Th cup is rounded and it you try to place your words staright, it will look off.  When you place them at this angle though they just look like fun.

Once again here is the finished project!

I hope that you have enjoyed my projects this week.  Please come and visit me on my blog ScrappinCricut and be sure to subscribe.  I would love to see you over there!

Tell me what images or sayings you would like on your cup?  Would you make on for yourself or would you  give them away as gifts?  What other things can you think would be cute decorated with vinyl?

Don't forget to comment for your chance to win the  Cricut Ole' cartridge!

I recently started doing these and LOVE them. Cutting vinyl is a billion times easier than paper, who new? So far, they have all been gifts for pre-schoolers (I include the kid's name, they love that) and teachers (stuffed with those single serving Crystal Lites).

Rebecca,
There is no need to use transfer page when working with paper. It is sticky like masking tape and holds on to the vinyl helping you pick it up so it doesn't stretch. :-)

OMGosh!!! Thank you for being so detailed in your instructions. I've tried using vinyl before (not using these steps, though), and it didn't turn out quite the way I'd like... (I was using the negative part to try glass etching... without the use of transfer tape...) Now that I've seen this, I'm buying transfer tape!! I'd totally make vinyl champagne glasses for the bride & groom, or for mommy-to-be's baby shower!! :-D
