Happy Birthday Bag from Over the Hill

Today's gift bag is from the new Cricut Events cartridge called Over the Hill ($29.99 - click HERE to buy).  It's a bit smaller than regular cartridges, hence the lower price.  Below are all the images on the cartridge:
I wanted to make a more cheerful item than the tombstone or urn, so I chose these cute balloons and the sentiment, "Happy Birthday". (Hey, what do you want from someone named Joy?...LOL!).
I promise I only have one more bag after this one, so don't worry.  Later in the week, I have other items coming up.
I created my own shadowing for the balloons and the sentiment.
I used black and white twine to tie the balloons and form them into a cluster.
Cutting the "Happy Birthday" twice and offsetting one layer gave a shadowed effect.

Click HERE for the Cricut Craft Room File.
Click HERE for the Gypsy File.

Did you know we give away a cartridge (and sometimes more) each and every week?

Don't forget to register for this week's drawing for the Cricut Creative Memories This 'n That cartridge ($55 value):

How can you win?

1) Leave a comment below: Is 40 "over the hill"?  I sure hope not...Do you do "over the hill" parties?
2) Subscribe or follow the blog.

That's it!

Winner will be announced Sunday, May 6, 2012.  Winner has two weeks to claim prize.  Allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

oh no, there is no way 40 is over the hill. over the hill parties, yeah I have done a few and for ppl I work with, an office over the hill party is totally neat. the walk from the parking lot to the front door can be very looooonnnngggg for the bday person so for those ppl, I've put a walker at their parking spot. lol.

What an adorable bag!! 40 is definately not over the Hill I have had over the hill 40 parties for some friends at work...but I must say that I did turn 40 this year and I just have a hard time saying it, so when people ask me how old I am... I tell them I am 29 with 11 years experience!!

Well, now that depends on what you think of as a 'hill'. If hill is the hard experimenting-til-you-find-who-you-really-are then maybe so. My life is great after 40. 50 is even better. I have a feeling 60 will be fabulous!! Love the gift bag. TFS. Good luck to all on cartridge!

I guess I don't think any age is over the hill. Great birthday bag.

snappy scrappy said...

Adorable gift bag. Since I am 43...no...I don't think 40 is over the hill. Here in Canada...people usually have a big party on their 40th...but it's not called an over the hill party. I think as we grow older...the number that reflects old age increases. When I was little...40 was old. Now I'm thinking 60 is old. Lee-Ann :)

Brenda Moore said...

Don't apologize for making bags they are beautiful and would easily translate into cards.Great cartridge!

NO!!! Forty is NOT over the hill. In fact, 40 is the new 20, hence 60 is the new 40! I had a party for my hubby when he turned 50, but it was not an "Over the Hill" themed party.
I don't like all the doom & gloom for a party either!

Andrea said...

40 was not over the hill..it was on top of a mountain with a beautiful view of what is to come!! The bag is super cute! I did throw a 40th party for my best friend (with her sis in law,)about 4 months before her b-day. She was quite surprised. I had to return the favor...she helped my family throw me a surprise party for my 40th b-day....now there is a story!!

LOL if 40 is over the hill then 55 must be a blast from the past? HEHE.... I sure hope 40 is not over the hill... this card is so cute though, love the balloons.

I'm going to have to agree with Sandi - after 50 the fun begins! I'm very comfortable with who I am and figure I still have about half my life in front of me! And there are no more kids at home (although I love my kids tons, it's great to be past that part now).

No, 40 is not over the hill. I'm in my 60's and I'm still going strong. I would never have thought of using this color combination, but it works great together.

I thought it was, that is until I was 40,41,42......and now the big 50! And I sure don't feel like I am over the hill. And yes we do over the hill partys, they are killer!!! Love your gift set.

Some of us who have turned 60 during the past year were just talking about this. Much to my surprise, 60 doesn't seem to have made any big difference, I don't even begin to feel old. I remember that my grandmother was in her late 50's when I was born and was already old, little and gray. We surely aren't that way any more! And Debbie got it right, nice to have my house back from the kids. I miss them, but not all the time.

Deb Red said...

Absolutely not....40 is far from over the hill. I am almost 2 decades past & I find myself learning new things all the time...this world has gotten so much better...can't wait to see the next 20 years!!

Grandchildren are the "over the hill" rewards! We are having great parties & celebrating our WONDERFUL LIVES over 40...our kids are now over 30 & they have WONDERFUL LIVES also.

Thanks for the chance, your creativity & love your site!!!

I'm glad you didn't use the tombstone or skull/crossbones. I know a lot of people have fun giving that sort of thing, but I've never known someone on the receiving end liking to be told death was around the corner. It's kind of out of touch with reality because people are living and staying healthy longer. You used cuts on this cartridge that play up the happy side of aging.

Thank you for offering carts for us to have a chance to win!

Cute bag! Love the balloons!

Is 40 over the hill? NOPE! I'm not there yet, 5 more years to go, but I'm working out, started running and I feel younger than ever! I can only imagine 40 will be the same!

Given that I am 50 something - I would say a big NO to 40 being over the hill : ) Isn't 60 the new 40??? Love the bag. Glad you made it a "happy" bag.

Over the hill is a state of mind and only what YOU think it is. Someone once said old is 15 years older than you are and as you age it recedes in time in your thoughts. I'd love to be 40 again. Life begins at 40. carjo40@gmail.com

Great bag for anyone over the age of 40, who's still in their PRIME! Thanks for sharing your ideas.

I like the bag you made. I like being more positive too. I just would have had to have a cake with tombstones on it. I did that for my father-in-law! LOL! We also bought him old fart slippers for a gag gift. Unfortunately, he's not with us any more, but he was such a good sport.

beautiful colours, nice choice of images.. the fancy work on the balloooooons is just a wonderful touch. It is fun, with a touch of class. Another inspiring creation.

hehe - this cart is clever!
But, no - I don't think 40 is over the hill at all. The only thing is, if you ask my kids, you'll get a very different answer! (They have to be careful, though, because both their parents are over 40!) ;)

Great gift bag. Some days 40 does feel like it's over the hill but most days I just can't believe that I am 46yrs old. I still in mind feel in my 20's.

It is so wonderful that you chose to make this time a happy event rather than the miserable joke a lot of people make it out to be. I love the colors and the whole design.

Goodness, over the hill is getting younger all the time. I thought the new 50 was 60, etc. Oh, well, I'm older than both of those numbers, so.....

Great gift bag.

I love the bag, the colors look great together. I will turn 48 next month and consider myself "approaching the top of the hill", not over it yet. We did have parties for my husband and I on our 30th birthdays. For our more recent milestones, we've gone on trips to celebrate.

40 is NOT over the hill!! In fact--I think you are only "over the hill" if you let yourself be--and that can happen at ANY age! I have thrown parties where Over The Hill was mentioned--40th, 50th & 60th--all for my husband and members of his family.
