Easter Blessings Vinyl For Car

Only a few more days until Easter and I thought it would be a neat idea to put a vinyl word art saying on my car, for the next week or so.  I did this at Christmas and really enjoyed how it looked!

I used the digital Cricut cartridge called Easter Blessings ($9.99 for these images):
Here's how I layered the vinyl:

First I laid out the images on the Cricut Craft Room mat as I wanted them to go on the car.  Then, I separated the layers for easy vinyl placement.
Above, I have the shadows laid out as they will go on the car.  I will layer everything onto these shadow pieces and then apply that in one giant piece to the car.

Once I cut the layers, I used the tool above to pick out all the bits and pieces.
Then, using the scraper, I burnished on the transfer tape.
Now, we are moving this white writing onto the shadow.
I carefully peel the backing off the vinyl so the whole word art is now on the transfer tape.
Then, very, very carefully, I lay the white layer onto the shadow.  I burnish it again to get a good seal.
I do this again for the flowered section (much trickier).  Rip off a small piece of transfer tape to do the flowers as they do not line up with the base layer.  You will have to transfer them one by one.
Got that one on!
Now we finish all the flower layers and we are going to add the whole thing to the shadow layer.
Again, burnish that on with the scraper.
Here it is all together!  Now to add transfer tape to this and bring it out to the car.
Here it is going on the car back window.

It was hard to get a good picture of this so that's why so many views.  It was starting to get grey outside and next thing you know, we had all kinds of tornado sirens and touchdowns in Dallas.  I had finished this project and raced to the Walmart supermarket for "one more thing"before the storm and I got stuck in there during one of the siren warnings.  They shooed us to the back of the supermarket and we waited it out.  At the "all clear", I rushed home only to go through sirens 4 more times.  Thankfully, we were ok and I was able to get my kids from school, where they had been in weather lockdown, with little trouble.

It's a good thing I didn't wait to the very last minute to make this, like I've been known to do...LOL!

I love the Fun in the Sun cart - my DD letttered in Water Polo and that's the only cart I've found with that on it! Being in the L. A. area, we have zillions of water pics I need to get into a scrapbook (or ten!), and some great lake ones for the tubing (and somehow they seem to have made the tubing lady from a pic of my sister -- it's THAT perfect!!)

Love your Easter decal!...still too intimidating for me, but each time you share such great instructions I think maybe I'll give it a try...have to get some vinyl. As to Easter dinner, we have been struggling with stomach viruses here and don't want to spread germs around so if we are still sick by the weekend, I think the three of us will be making our own dinner here with ham, scalloped tators, and veggy. Terrific idea! Vinyl is so easy to work with! Easter ~ I have a yummy recipe for a carrot casserole ~ sweet & delicious! That's along with leg of lamb and green beans wrapped in bacon. I'm getting hungry!

Love your idea. I've always wanted to try layering vinyl but have been nervous about it. So glad you and your family are fine. Can't believe you went to Wal-Mart in the midst of all the warnings - I guess you get used to these warnings after a while. My daughter is a meteorologist and so we were watching your weather for hours. Amazing, very scary and also very thankful. Happy Easter!

I really need to try vinyl. Cool idea!

Glad you are safe - I can't imagine that - we had a hurricane force storm a few weeks ago - we've never had that here before - and that was scary enough!

For Easter this year we hare doing a huge bon fire (to burn all the trees that fell in the storm) so we are going to do a weinie roast! Something a little different - normally it is turkey and all the trimmings!

Hi Joy - I am 'making' Honey Baked Ham! Yum! of course i am really making everything else that goes with it!
Glad you're safe after those storms.
Love love your car deco!

Great idea for the vinyl! And I'm eating lamb, as always with easter.

love your vinyl project! thanks for the tutorial. I'm making creme brûlée for dessert and other family members bring other dishes so no one has the full burden.

I am happy to say we are going out to eat. No one is cooking this year!

Thanks for explaining so well how you made the vinyl Easter for your car. You make it sound easier than I thought it would be. I think I am about ready to try working with vinyl on my Cricut.

What a great idea!
I'm still not sure what I'm serving, we haven't found out my son's works schedule so that will determine the time and the menu, but if we are having dinner I will be serving ham and it promises to be quite tasty.

Crhiga said...

Love the vinyl decal. Can it be stored and reused? We will probably have a ham dinner.

So super cute! Won't be doing anything special for Easter this year, maybe campout. TFS

Pamela said...

I love that you put Easter Blessings on your car and not Happy Easter. It just means so much more to me. My hubby has decided that he wants untraditional foods this Easter so he has requested smoked ribs (that he will make) and lobster tails! I'm more into the desserts!

MB said...

Cute idea! How long can the vinyl stay on the car?

MizMaryAnn said...

We have an annual neighborhood egg hunt and pot luck hot dog, smore's party. It's so much fun.

That's gorgeous!

I'm making a ham, mashed potatoes, and some other sides. It's just me and my husband, so I try not to make too much food.

Awesome project! i have yet to be brave and try vynil, but love the llok of it TFS. We will be having ham and potatoe salad, gotta use all those hardboiled eggs ;)

Glad it wasn't worse! Thanks for the steps on the vinyl, I haven't tried it yet. I will be cooking for my fiance, daughter, brother, and a best friend couple. We will have ham (in the Big Easy) green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, and a Bunny-Butt Cake for dessert! YUM!

I love love this project. I never even thought to use it as a car decal. Thanks for the idea. Have a great Easter. We are spending it with family.

The Easter Blessing looks wonderful. I don't know if I'm ready to do all that with vinyl, yet. You did a great job. For Easter I'll be by myself since my siser is going to Florida to see her son's family and the new baby. I'll get some turkey dinner from Boston Market and enjoy that.

Great idea...will keep that in mind. We are having an unconventional Easter dinner this year. Brisket of all things...my husband is tired of the same ole ham and scalloped potatoes.

Hope I win.

I will be having Easter alone, as my husband is hiking the Appalachian Trail and all of our children are spread out, one in Afganistan.

Ooh, Joy, I was thinking of both you and Melanie today when I heard about the tornados they had in Dallas. Glad you are okay. We're having turkey breast and deviled eggs and a special green bean/fennel side dish among other faves. Love your car decal - wish I knew how to use Cricut Craft room - would love to be able to use the weld option. I don't have the gypsy or the cricut design software, so I usually have to do it the hard way or not at all! LOL Thanks for the chance to win the Fun in the Sun cartridge. Woo Hoo
