I just got this new paper line called Wings from Close to My Heart and I've been dying to use it. Since Melanie's birthday is this weekend, I thought I would use it to make a card for her. The card evolved over time and I ended up using more cartridges than I really needed to. I am going to tell you the ones I used but also suggest another way to do this.
To start with, I got out the Cricut Sentimentals cartridge and cut this large frame at 5-1/2" using all three layers. This cartridge has some great frames, word art and cards with matching envelopes. I highly recommend it. It also has a butterfly on it that you could use. I ended up using a butterfly from the Paper Lace cartridge and cut it at both 2" (both layers) and 1-1/4". I was planning to use more things on Paper Lace but as the project evolved, I just cut the butterflies. If I was doing this again, I would just use the butterfly from Sentimentals.
Then, at one point, I scrapped the frame idea and was just going to go with a scalloped oval combo that I had found on the new Baby Steps cartridge, which I cut at 2-1/4". But then, on my 5" x 7" card, the oval was too small. Oh, the struggles! LOL! So, I came up with the plan to layer it onto the frame in a vertical manner.
One tip is to glue layers together before using the Cuttlebug (above frame and oval cuttlebugged with the Swiss Dots folder). The reason for this is that the Cuttlebug slightly shrinks the paper and so if you don't glue to layers first, they don't quite fit afterwards.
As you can see above, I used a lot of dimensional pop dots and used a glue dot for the center small butterfly so I could just attach the center section. The pearls on the butterfly layers really jazz it up. Those are from Hobby Lobby.
Inside and outside stamps are from Papertrey Ink. A bit of paper inside finishes it off.
I am going to lunch with Melanie today to celebrate her birthday that is coming up this weekend. I have a fabulous gift and this card to give her. If you could head over to Melanie's blog, Courtney Lane Designs and wish her happy birthday, that would be great. She has a new project for you to see over there also.
Have a great weekend!!
