Ok, it's Joy back with another project - this time a layout!
As soon as I saw the Cricut Boys Will Be Boys cartridge, I knew I wanted to cut this fly. How silly is that, huh? Well, when my son, Robbie, was 5 and 6 years old, he loved the Fly Guy books. As some of you may know, Robbie has high functioning autism and for years, I couldn't get him to do anything with reading. I couldn't do phonics with him - NOTHING. I never saw him reading or even looking at books closely. Then, when he was in kindergarten, he wanted to get the Fly Guy books. I was thrilled! When we got home, he picked one of them up and starting reading from the beginning out loud! I was in tears (of joy, of course) - I had no idea if he would ever be able to read (despite schooling, interventions, etc.). It gave me so much hope!
Now, on with the show...
I thought this would be a great layout to make to commemorate this big event. So, I cut the fly at 5-1/2". Then, my title was cut at 2-1/4" - don't you love those arrows? The Cricut Boys Will Be Boys cartridge has some great fonts. I added pen work to give it a little interest.
Finally, I cut the arrow at 3". I cut a yellow scalloped rectangle at the fit to page setting on a 12x12 sheet (as big as possible) and mounted behind the photos, etc. You can't see it too well but it added a layer to the page.
I printed out pictures of the book covers and added them to both the top of the page and then inside the flap. I pop dotted the center photo to give some dimension.
I added the flap so that I could tell my story about Robbie. The photos of books inside are also by the same author and were beloved books that he read constantly, until they actually fell apart. I will use an Exacto knife on the page protector to cut around the flap so I can access it once it's in the album.
Paper was by Club Scrap and Coredinations. I blurred Robbie's face because I don't like images of my kids on the net, just FYI. The layout looks so cute without being blurred, though - just sayin'. LOL!
Now before everyone gets excited, because after all, this is my third post in a row and we typically don't do that unless it's guest designer week, so let me explain (Was that a run on sentence? I'm an engineer so I feel like I get a kitchen pass for those types of problems...).
You all are probably wondering where Melanie is! Tragically, Melanie just lost her 36 year old cousin (mom of 4 under the age of 13). Her cousin had been suffering from brain cancer for a number of years and passed this week. So, Melanie is terribly upset and has family business and funeral plans to make, etc. Feel free to give Melanie a shout out - I'm sure she'd appreciate it. This has been very hard on her family. Melanie was very close to this cousin.
Tune in tomorrow when both you and I will be surprised by what I make (me especially, as I'm not yet sure what I'm doing...).
