Howdy Pardner Cricut Old West Layout!

Hi, this is Joy and here is a new surprise at Holidays with the Cricut....we are going to start featuring a layout on Tuesdays using an older cartridge.

Today's layout uses the Cricut Old West cartridge exclusively and while that isn't a very old cartridge, it has been a number of months since it was released. As time progresses, you will see layouts with much older cartridges, such as Graphically Speaking, Doodlecharms, Storybook, etc. Don't worry, we will still have a layout on Thursday also!

Besides having 2 full fonts with shadowing, plus 2 additional fonts, there are images and word art for each key. There were so many cute images on this cartridge that it was hard to narrow it down.

Cuts:

Fence: 2 3/4" (cut 6 times)
Cactus: 8", 5 1/2", and 4 1/2"
Happy Trails: 2" shadow brown, 1 3/4" rest of cut
Howdy Pardner: 2 1/2"
Horse (flipped): 5 1/2"
Journaling Block: 3 1/4" light brown, 3 1/2" dark brown to shadow

I used Cosmo Cricket Christmas paper as the background - tricky, huh? I have just a little Christmas paper left (ha ha!) - OK, maybe a I have a LOT of Christmas paper left! I thought it worked perfectly for this layout. The top striped section is also Cosmo Cricket. The bandanna paper is from Hobby Lobby and the twine is from Papertrey Ink. Horse was cut using Bo Bunny Christmas paper (again with the Christmas paper!) and all other cuts were done using Core'dinations cardstock. Brads from Hobby Lobby.

This shows that sometimes Christmas paper is more versatile than you thought...

The cuts were enhanced by inking the fronts and edges. It really added some dimension and detail to the fencing and cactus. What a difference!

Photo mats are standard sizing of 5" x 7" and 3 1/2" x 5". I like to keep photo mats at standard sizes so that when I go to add in photos later, there will be no problems with strange sizing. A trick Melanie and I both use is to print out photos in black and white for pre-made layouts - then, there is no worry about colors matching! I tied some twine from Papertrey Ink around them to add some texture - it felt cowboy-like to me!

I used gold mini-brads all over this layout. It was easy to do as the title had designated spots for you to put them in! The cuts were very easy to make on this cartridge and it was clear what to do with each one of them.

Join me tomorrow for Wild Card Wednesday using the soon-to-be-released Just Because Cards cartridge!

Giddyup!
