Week 18: Gift Packaging with Winter Woodland

Hi, this is Joy and today's project is a decorated a gable box with cuts from the Winter Woodland cartridge and Anna Griffin Christmas paper. Decorating this gable box gives it just the right touch to let someone know they are special. I chose the bird motif because the person who will receive this just loves cardinals! The exact instructions for this project are easy but long, so you can download the instructions, with pictures, by clicking HERE! Below is a brief summary of the instructions, although details are left out.

I started off by cutting the branch2 tag from page 38 of the Winter Woodland Cricut cartridge handbook. I wanted to layer in a second branch with the branch on the tag feature so I made many cuts to create a layered effect. I also used the packing tape/glitter technique featured in THIS POST. Stickles (dimensional glitter glue) was used to create the berries, as well as for the bird's eye.

Next, I cut bird2 from the Serenade cartridge. If you don't have Serenade, Winter Woodland has a number of birds to choose from that are also quite suitable. I created the front matting of the box by decreasing the paper sizing in 1/8" and 1/4" increments to show a desired outlined effect. I wrapped a double satin ribbon from Anna Griffin around the mat prior to adhering the bird/branch tag with pop dots.

The sides of the box is made up of white cardstock that has been run through the Cuttlebug using the new Season's Greeting folder. Then, using the new mini cartridge, Very Merry Tags, I cut out the bird tag at 3 1/2", along with it's corresponding red background tag at the same size. I then mounted that on a 3 3/4" scalloped circle in white, which was mounted on a red scalloped circle cut at 4". The circles came from the Mini Monograms cartridge. But you could use other cartridges or just plain circles instead. I also removed the actual tag toppers and just pop-dotted on a red velvet ribbon bow. That really isn't necessary but I felt like doing it this way. Really, though, you could leave the tag either way.

Finally, the back of the box was decorated simply by using a vellum quote from Anna Griffin and mounting that on white cardstock that had been cut using the Martha Stewart Loopy Around the Page Punch. I liked how that matched the loops on the vellum quote. I mounted that on red cardstock and used pop dots to give it some dimension on the box. The background was created by layering the green swirl Anna Griffin paper onto white cardstock and placing a red satin ribbon around the whole thing.

The topper was also created using a vellum quote from Anna Griffin that was mounted onto red swirl cardstock (also Anna Griffin). The bottom green strip was punched using the Martha Stewart crown border punch and then adhered to the quote. A textured cording completed the sentiment. Tulle was used to close the box.

Now that you read through all that, you deserve a cartridge giveaway! Today's cartridge giveaway is the Christmas Noel solutions cartridge! You are going to LOVE this cartridge!! Leave a comment in this post for a chance to win!

But, come back after leaving your comment so that you can go see what our guest designers have for you today!!

You are going to just die when you see how Mandy made this gorgeous box with the intricate paper poinsetta on top!! Click HERE to see more on how she made this!

Then you have to see what Monique made today! The birds are so popular & plentiful this year, so I love how Monique uses the cardinal (different from the one above) on this adorable gift bag!  Click HERE to get the instructions on how to make this yourself!!

Don't miss out on tomorrow's layouts - they are sure to delight and impress!! Tammy and the designers have been hard at work on them!
