WEEK9: Crafty Gift Saturday - Car Magnet Ribbons

Hello everyone!! This is Tammy and today is Crafty Gift Saturday! No papercrafting today... no siree... I am using the magnet material from our sponsor, Provocraft, to make our own personalized car magnets.

I used one of the two ribbon images located on the new PINK JOURNEY cartridge. There is a ribbon on the STAND & SALUTE cartridge too, but I like how thick the PJ ribbon is... makes it easier to personalize. The ribbon was cut from the magnet material that I had layered pink vinyl on, then I used black vinyl to personalize it for my mother-in-law, who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last year and is now cancer free... she is truly a Survivor! Her name was cut from CURSIVE 101 and the word 'survivor' was cut from PINK JOURNEY.

I used yellow vinyl layored on the magnet material to cut this Yellow Ribbon. I made several of these, but have alot more to make because everyone in our family will get one for Christmas this year... because my son, Patch, deploys for Afghanistan in January.

I like the size of this (9") and I like the scalloped oval from PINK JOURNEY. I welded the oval onto the ribbon with my GYPSY, but it can also be done in DESIGN STUDIO.

Here is a video showing you how I made both ribbons... (click HERE if you don't see the video below) **Sry... for some reason the GYPSY screen got brighter after uploading to YOUTUBE and is difficult to see in the video**

I also welded the words, "Support Our Troops" using the GYPSY and PLANTIN SCHOOLBOOK. I like using the magnets on my car better than placing the vinyl straight on the car, because they are much more durable to withstand weather and car washes (remove before entering the car wash... lol!).

The possiblities are endless for this project. You could make so many cute and meaningful Christmas gifts that are personalized and priceless. Not only are the magnets great for your vehicle, but look great on your refrigerator too! Cut your own picture frames for those pictures of the kids!

Thanks for visiting our blog, this is the end of WEEK9, which means that there are only 11 weeks left! Approximately 90 days before the big guy in the red suit makes a visit... don't let it sneak up on you, start planning now!

Don't forget to leave those comments for tomorrow's drawing! Midnight (central time) is the cutoff to be eligible. Good luck everyone!

TAMMY

What a great project! And, thanks for the fabulous tip about the cricut mat liner. I've been having trouble with the sticky stuff sticking to the liner. I didn't know that there was a right and wrong side. Thank you for telling us that!

Oh I could of used these 2 years ago when my son in law was in Iraq, hopefully I'll never have to make one for my son in law again, I'll pray your son stays safe over there. What a wonderful show of support if each of your family memebers puts one on their car!! soses

Tammy, I really just want to thank you and your family for the sacrifices your son Patch will be making for me to keep my freedoms! He has my support and I will keep him in my prayers. We live in the land of the free only because of the brave! Good luck to your MIL too...my MIL is also a survivor! Great ideas, always!

KZ said...

While those magnets are great, I would like to warn people that they can harm paint jobs on your car. We had a car with a magnet ribbon on it and the magnet scratched the paint to the point that after we took the magnet off you could still see an outline of a ribbon scratched in the paint.
